From east: Take Exit 95, go 2 1/2 miles to 3rd stoplight, R on 2nd East St, 1 mile to Sinclair station, go R 2 blocks to KOA. 5 Montpelier Creek This award-winning, peaceful KOA lies along the Oregon Trail, halfway between Salt Lake City and Yellowstone National Park. Settle back in a tree-shaded site, lulled by the trickle of the creek that runs through the campground. Drop a lure into the creek (fi shing license required) or relax in the heated pool. Your dog will love the fenced-in dog park and a walk along the nature trail. No RV or tent? Stay in a tepee with modern conveniences or a Cabin by the creek. Or go "glamping" in a Deluxe Cabin with a full bath/linen service. The National Oregon/California Trail Center provides an amazing look at the pioneer experience, including a computer-simulated covered-wagon ride. Whether you're staying in a tent, RV or Cabin, you're just a short 5- to 10-minute walk to world-famous hot springs. Train whistles from the past still echo through the heart of Lava Hot Springs: It was once the main source of transportation for early trappers who visited these wonderful natural hot springs. Prices and hours for the hot springs and water park can be found at lavahotsprings.org. Lava Hot Springs is also well known for tubing down the Portneuf. Save 15% by renting tubes right at the campground. Renovations continue as the new owners aggressively work to create a KOA campground that is worth traveling to (12 miles east of of I-15, Exit 47). The lower bathrooms have been remodeled, and the RV sites are larger and have been upgraded with 50-amp service. Plans for 2015 include nine new Cabins with year-round availability.
